Producer Vishnu Vardhan Induri, who has directed films like “83” by Kabir Khan and “Thalaivi” by Kangana Ranaut, has revealed plans to make a film about Durgawati Devi, the woman who inspired freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad. Induri released this film as part of an “Azad Hind” film franchise and the film will be released next year. The Chennai-based producer also revealed that he plans to make a series of films based on freedom fighters that will be released each year.

The first film will be titled “Veerangana Durgawati Devi” and will delve into the life of the revolutionary woman who actively participated in the armed revolution against the British Raj. It was she who accompanied Bhagat Singh on the train after he escaped in disguise after killing British police officer John Saunders.

Durgawati, known as Durga Bhabhi during the freedom struggle, lived anonymously in Ghaziabad after independence. She ran a school and died there at the age of 92 in 1999. Her character was mentioned in “Rang De Basanti” by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra in which Soha Ali Khan played her role.

Vishnu Vardhan plans to recruit a top director for the film franchise, after which the casting for the film will be finished.
