PM Modi pays tribute to freedom fighter Shyamji Varma

A grateful nation will never forget its contribution to the struggle for independence, said Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma on Monday on his birthday and said it was important for young India to know more about his courage and greatness.

Modi said that Varma, born in 1857 in Gujarat, dedicated his life to ending slavery in India. A grateful nation will never forget its contribution to the struggle for independence, he added.

“I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to bring the ashes of Shyamji Krishna Varma from Switzerland in 2003 and to receive his reinstatement certificate during my visit to the UK in 2015. It is important that young India in know more about his courage and his greatness, “tweeted the Prime Minister.
