“Israel’s attacks on Palestinians qualify as state terrorism”

Bogota – Colombia

The Palestinian cause is a long, slow but relentless genocide, the president of the Confederation of Palestinian Communities of Latin America and the Caribbean (COPLAC) said on Wednesday.

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Rafael Araya Masry said that “there is reason to talk about state terrorism perpetrated by Israel” in the ongoing airstrikes in Gaza which have left at least 67 dead, including 17 children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. .

“It is not for nothing that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has opened an investigation against Israel for war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip with its bombings but adding a factor which is not minor: colonization of the Palestinian territories. Colonization is a war crime, ”Masry said.

Tensions are at their highest since last week after an Israeli court ordered the eviction of Palestinian families from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied East Jerusalem.

“This process of dispossession, primarily in the holy city of Jerusalem, of which Israel has declared its unique and indivisible capital, signifies what we are saying: the erasure of all human, graphic, written and cultural traces of a community there. lived for many years. centuries. It is therefore the violent pursuit through state terrorism of a process aimed at the expulsion of Palestinians from the eastern part of Jerusalem, which is intended to be the future capital of the Palestinian state ”, did he declare.

According to Masry, the Israeli government sends civilians – settlers – to bait and insult Palestinians before sending the army to evict them from their homes.

“It is fascist to use the civilian population as a tool of state policy to expel the inhabitants. This is the tragic part of the story: the state succeeds in bringing the civilian population into a fascist project.

In addition to evictions in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of East Jerusalem during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Israeli authorities harassed and attacked worshipers amid prayers inside Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site of Islam, which intensified the violence.

Regarding a possible Intifada, Masry said: “Palestinian deaths in Israeli bombings in Gaza are normal. It always happens. It looks like an unresolved conflict. How do the people of the Gaza Strip, which is the largest open-air prison in the world, compete against the fourth or fifth military power on the planet? Moreover, with a state that has made military oppression the reason to invoke what it calls “the right to defend itself” and to crush any protest or dissent, not only against Palestinians but also against citizens and citizens. Israeli organizations that denounce what is happening with the Palestinian people.

On the other side of the world, all but two Latin American countries recognize Palestine: Mexico and Panama. Thus, as the Palestinian representative in the region, Masry said that the job of COPLAC is to raise awareness and gather the greatest possible support for Palestine to gain its independence.

“For example, I asked Mercosur to issue a statement and to suspend the prerogatives it granted to Israel by signing a free trade agreement, to suspend it as a pressure measure to stop the repression and bombing in the Palestinian territories.
