Yesterday, Humanoids announced that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of its new graphic novel, Makhno: Ukrainian freedom fighter, will be donated to a non-profit organization for the benefit of Ukraine. The book comes from creators Philippe Thirault & Roberto Zaghi. Today Rhythm is pleased to present an exclusive preview of the new graphic novel, which tells the true story of Nestor Makhnocommander of the Revolutionary Insurgent Army of Ukraine and fighter of the Ukrainian War of Independence.

This is how Humanoids describes Makhno: Ukrainian freedom fighter:

In early 20th century Ukraine, freedom fighter Nestor Makhno, son of peasants, was one of the most heroic and colorful figures of the Russian Revolution, encouraging his people to find and embrace social and economic self-determination. . This is his story, that of a military strategist who tirelessly challenged the Bolsheviks and the Germans to protect his homeland.

Humanoids is the latest publisher to offer aid to the people of Ukraine as they face a devastating invasion by Russian forces. Earlier this week First Second editor Marc Siegel launched Adopt a Ukraine Publisher, a fundraiser for Ukrainian comic book publisher Irbis Comics.

The non-profit emergency relief organization Razom will receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Makhno. In a statement announcing the donation, Humanoids editor Mark Waid described how they settled on Razom:

“In the spirit of Nestor Ivanovich Makhno himself, a courageous freedom fighter who has taken to the front lines of combat more than once, Humanoids has chosen to donate to the organization working most directly with today’s freedom fighters.”
