JAMMU, April 29: Kashmiri freedom fighter and martyr Sarwanand Kaul Premi has been honored by Delhi Metro under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahutsav.
Premi, who was an active participant in the Quit India movement in 1942-1946, was also imprisoned several times for his revolutionary poetry on Azadi. But his services and role as a patriotic and revolutionary writer and freedom fighter was recognized by the Indian government as well as Delhi Metro by putting up his sign with his picture and short brief on his life and his activities as an unsung hero of our freedom. struggle.
This is a rare honor for any Kashmiri Pandit freedom fighter. The martyr’s family have shown their delight at the gesture by the Ministry of Culture which previously recognized the late freedom fighter as an unsung hero of India’s freedom struggle. Kashmir’s Premi and Maqbool Sherwani were first added to the list of unsung heroes of Kashmir’s freedom struggle after the repeal of Article 370 under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahutsav. The Ministry of Communication, Post Department commemorated them both and Postmaster General J&K issued a special postal cover and my postage stamp on October 13 last year under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahautsaw.
The Delhi Metro’s gesture was hailed by some KP front organizations and KP leaders. Major among them included KOA, Sampooran Kashmir, J&K Vichar Manch and Kashmir Pandit Conference (KPC).
Prominent KP leaders who bestowed this honor on the entire exile community included CL Gadoo, Former KSD Chairman, Delhi, Col. Tej Tickoo, Former AIKS Chairman and Kundan Kashmir KPC Chairman.
The billboard has been installed at various stations of Delhi Metro including Barakhamba Road, Nirman Vihar, Laxmi Nagar, Preet Vihar etc. on the eve of the 32nd day of the martyrdom of Premi who was kidnapped and killed on May 1, 1990 with his son by terrorists. in Kashmir.
Late Premi was posthumously honored by the J&K government with a gold medal for his significant contribution in the field of literature and language on Independence Day in 1997 and this year the J&K government honored him. honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award on Republic Day.
