“Birsa Munda is an ideal freedom fighter”, says Governor of Maharashtra at launch of The Legend of Birsa Munda by Tuhin A. Sinha & Ankita Verma
The long-awaited book The Legend of Birsa Munda by Tuhin A. Sinha and Ankita Verma was launched on Wednesday at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai. The book was published by the Honorable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Bhagat Singh Koshyari. Speaking at the event, the Governor said, “The contribution of various unknown freedom fighters to India’s liberation movement was as significant as that of the known frontline leaders of the movement. Commending the authors for their efforts and thorough studies, he added, “Birsa Munda is an ideal freedom fighter for the whole nation.”
The book is an in-depth tribute to the life and times of the great tribal hero Birsa Munda. Filling gaping holes in Indian literature and history, the book aims to bring to the fore the role of this lesser-known tribal revolutionary who played a hugely important role in India’s struggle for independence. It receives rave reviews in the mainstream media. Aashish Chandorkar, a well-known author and columnist, said in his review of the book, “The book is an honest portrait of a tribal leader – the frail young boy who became Bhagwan Birsa Munda. It is an offbeat book that covers a very important part of Indian history.
Tuhin A. Sinha, the author of the book, speaking at the event, said: “Based on real events, the book is a tribute to Birsa Munda who in a very short life mobilized the tribal community, stood up rebelled against forced conversions, imagined a just and just society, and died fighting for it. Ankita Verma, co-author, added: “Birsa Munda was a lion-hearted warrior, healer and spiritual guide. The book aims to introduce readers to the story of this revolutionary who represented hope, courage and determination in the face of fear and powerlessness.
The event was moderated by well-known author Richa Mukherjee.
veteran actor Anupam Kher tweeted, “Congratulations dear @tuhins on your book launch @MundaBirsa1 by Hon. @maha_gouverneur!! Can’t wait to read the book. Jai Ho!!
This event was the first in a series of book launches scheduled to take place across the country. The book will also be launched in Bhopal by Honorable Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
